Where do you live and how would you describe the scene there?

Northwest Indiana. Our scene is the Chicago scene, since it’s only 30 minutes away. We’ve all been trying to build a scene closer to home but the big city will always have the main draw.

How has this influenced your style?

When I started producing my main audience was mostly just a group of friends. This was way before EDM was popular. I was the “techno” guy and I was okay with making music that only ten or so people would hear. In that regard, my style has been pretty similar since I started making hip hop beats years ago. I’m really not interested in copying the hottest styles of the moment for immediate gratification. Ten passionate fans will always trump a thousand temporary followers, in my opinion.

Where else have you played and how did you feel about the scene there?

I’ve played throughout Indiana to little fanfare, but the scenes are slowly growing. Besides that, Chicago has an excellent scene and I’m really excited to be a part of that.

How would you describe your sound?

The closest description I’ve come up with is Electro Hop, and I still think that belongs more to someone like Pretty Lights. I really don’t have a common description for my sound. I try to put hip hop elements and purple sound into every one of my tracks, but if I start on a dubstep song and decide it’s better as a mid tempo breaks jam I do it. I’m more interested in the art than I am fitting any sort of mold. I guess the best answer is my sound is Ignorant Noise.

How did you come up with your name?

One of my friends was talking about a metal band he really liked. His girlfriend at the time said, “that’s nothing but a bunch of ignorant noise” and it stuck. To be fair, I disliked the band but the idea that you could discount anyone’s art and hard work as noise simply because you didn’t like it was amusing. Especially because, again, at the time listening to electronic music meant you were a “Techno rave” kid.

What is your fav artists to listen to while driving?

I rarely listen to any sort of EDM while I drive, with the rare exception being old Spor, 16bit, and Deadmau5. No reason in particular. My driving music is usually Massive Attack, Boards of Canada, Earth Wind & Fire, and a long CD binder of funk and soul jams.

Over the years what progression of dance music genres have you fallen in love with to bring you to where you are now?

I stay away from progressions to be honest. The only one I ever really followed was the creation of dubstep. For me, it’s more about finding different artists, especially the ones with a sound that transcends genres. I’ve always just gravitated towards artists with hip hop flavor or artists that created moving pieces.

Who would you say are your major influences?

First and foremost: Koan Sound.

After that but equally important:

Boards of Canada

Minnesota

Kill Paris

Bassnectar

What do you love about performing and what are your favorite gigs?

I love the feeling of connectivity! It’s an amazing feeling to be a part of something that other people are dancing to. That I can be the one that can create something that people can lose themselves in is incredible, and I’m very happy and blessed to be able to share that. There was nothing quite like seeing an entire crowd of people at North Coast who had never heard of me or my performers dance, jump, and even mosh to our set.

How did you get into making music?

I have always had a musical mind, but I was friends with some kids who experimented in making hip hop and trip hop, and I wanted to record. I made a lot of weird groovy things but it wasn’t until like 8 or 9 years later that I decided to start putting out more mainstream things for download. Dubstep changed a lot of that for me.

What do you use to make music?

FL studio, and an odd assortment of VSTs I’ve collected over the years. I’m also a bass player of almost 12 years, so I commonly play and record bass licks. They’re usually too chopped up and resampled to ever recognize but that’s the magic of it.

What process do you go thru to make a track?

I will usually be humming/beatboxing a track for hours to get a good feel for a song. From that point, I start on drums first, song structure second, and then I fill in everything as I see fit. I like getting my foundation first so I have the tools to figure out how I want to stomp a bassline.

How do you decide which tracks to play when DJing to get the dance floor jumping?

I’m a crowd reader, and very proud of it. I also have a neurotic memory of all of my tracks. At that point, it’s just about reading people’s auras and being confident in your decisions. Another element as well is removing your ego from the equation. There are a LOT of DJs now who get up and blast straight filth or bangers and everyone leaves. The problem there is that they are playing for themselves, not their crowd. You are there because people trust you to entertain them.

Who is your favorite DJ right now and why?

Dillon Francis for sure. He’s not only insanely humorous (I call him the Tim and Eric of EDM) but his sets are rock solid. Also he hit me with a pinata once.

How long have you been producing and or Djing?

Ive been a producer for (I think) over 10 years at this point. I’ve been a DJ/button pusher/performer for about 6.

What is Ignorant Noise working on now and what should we look out for?

I have a tearout dubstep remix being featured soon, a 90 bpm soul uplifter being released, and then in the summer I will be working with a pianist and a rapper to make some really unique stuff. Besides that, all fingers crossed for festival season this year.

Where do you live and how would you describe the scene there?

I live in a place where a block away from me is a pleasure emporium, an awesome bar, a pizza joint that stays open till 4am and screeching zombies in the middle of the night. I live in Downtown LA. The scene is amazing and an experience to say the least.

Where are you from and how is the scene there different?

I’m from Miami FL and the scene in Miami compared to Downtown LA would simply be the lack of innovation and amazing people whom you’d meet every single day in DTLA. Of course, the weather isn’t as nice in Miami but there are some bright sides to it, The beach scene simply being one of them. Theres nothing like a swan dive into the pool of a South Beach Hotel or beach!

How has this influenced your style?

I would say it has influenced my music more than my style. My style has always been all over the place with a hint of my own style throughout,(if that makes any sense). I’m constantly writing music that is influenced by so many different things on a subconscious level, mainly. It would be a hard question to answer.

How would you describe your sound?

Mainstream with a hint of underground or Eccentric, moody, hard and typically upbeat. It’s like describing a fine wine, Blackberry and chocolate don’t exist in the ingredients yet that’s how a sommelier would describe a wine’s flavor.

How did you come up with your name?

A friend of mine released a song called “Glowing Owl” on his label. It was the first song I “officially” released as culineR. I called myself DLUXXX before and I’m not exactly sure why but my friend said you have to just be “culineR” if you want to BRO-DOWN(not an actual quote)! So, naturally, I said “of course”!

Over the years what progression of dance music genres have you fallen in love with to bring you to where you are now?

I can honestly say I love most genres of dance music! From Deep House and Minimal to Trap and Drum N Bass! I’ve always been able to find what it is people appreciate in different genres. Because of finding an appreciation for most genres throughout the years, I feel it’s what makes me a producer today.

Who would you say are your major influences?

I’m sure subconsciously, I’m influenced by artists music such as Jonsi, Depeche Mode,Flying Lotus, Gesafelstein. But truly, I’m influenced by certain friends who have been successful and I’m more influenced by their work ethic and how hard they push to get what it is they’ve always wanted as well as how passionate they become as the puzzle pieces fit together. To me that’s more of a major influence.

How did you get into making music?

I’ve been technically writing music since I was 14 or so. I was always in bands throughout most of my life and I’ve always written for them. In fact, a band in Miami to this day (10 years later) are still playing songs I’ve written. I don’t know why but i guess they love them! I kind of just fell into writing and the love just grew as the years went by.

What do you use to make music?

I produce on strictly a laptop with ableton live, some plug-ins, and a nice old pair of sennheiser headphones. Just gotten used to it this way.

What process do you go thru to make a track?

I always switch it up. It’s whatever mood or type of song i feel like writing that’s the deciding factor on the process. However, I typically start with writing a cool chorus or drop and if Iove it after playing it back 12,000 times, then I will start laying in the rest of the structure. As far as what instrumentation comes first, theres just no order.

How do you decide which tracks to play when DJing to get the dance floor jumping?

Well, depending on what type of party it is, usually decides the variations of my set. I’ve never played the exact same set, even once. You know instantaneously whether or not you can play some weird stuff like some soft core porn music or something. I usually hope for an open minded crowd because it lets me test not only a lot of the songs I’ve written and uncertain about but again, just some unorthodox songs.

How long have you been producing and or Djing?

I’ve been producing for my bands for close to 10 years, For other artists, 2 years and now religiously for myself, a little over a year. The experience I believe is there as far as producing and writing goes but I just never sat down and said okay, it’s my turn, until 2012.

I’ve been djing for about a year as well.

ABOUT

Nonplus, the entity, the purveyor of MIDI has made a song that is capable of bringing the universe to a standstill in order to focus it’s energy on the beautifully orchestrated sounds of Playdate.

Playdate is a song that can be listened to for the next 100 years. Life without Nonplus is no life at all. The mysterious yet innovative vocals set the tone for a story nobody will forget. As you go down this unforgettable path of wisdom and atonalism you’re hit with a sudden realization of truth. This truth can set you free from the everyday reality we all breathe beneath the steel sky.

Steve Duda, need we say more, has created a remix out of bliss. He took what some would call the cauldron of eternity and turned it into the mortal being it needed to be. There was no other option as it had to be Steve.

Obsidian, the master of bass, has brought the original a whole new flavor. He carefully executed this remix in a lawless manner with no regard for faces! Your face is going to melt, we guarantee it. This remix finishes off our most anticipated release of the year. Be the first to get a copy.

Cherenkov Light was forged out of raindrops and a serious knowledge of sound. Nonplus shows off just how deep his skills can penetrate the sonic layer of our souls. This song is one with universe, it is nature, it is everything we can’t understand and everything we can. True bliss.

Look out for the Nonplus “North By Northwest EP” with a special remix by John Tejada coming soon!

“In a world where cookie cutter tracks and preset sounds have become the norm, Nonplus delivers a vision of the future.” – Bill Hamel

“beautiful, dark, body, mind music…….” – BT

NONPLUS Q&A

How would you describe your sound?
Crystalline: shimmery sparkles with edges that draw blood.

Post-structualist Pop.

Technically, it’s modal medieval music realized with particularly intricate and involved synthesis and production. But, while the gear is an integral aspect of music like Electro, Pop music is about telling a story (communication). People need to relate to the song – it needs to be familiar on some level. It’s really easy to make pop with a guitar or piano because they are familiar. The more weird timbres in your song, the more difficult it is for people to relate to. When a song like “Playdate” that’s full of seriously mean, ugly, unfamiliar sounds comes across as light and friendly and relatable, that’s a huge triumph. There’s a deep, complex subtext that is totally easy to miss. And that’s exactly what I wanted. It’s like the opposite of IDM or skronky jazz or math rock – music that prides itself in pushing away casual listeners.

Example: I totally love pieces like “Gantz Graf” (Autechre). I want to make music of a depth and horror, yet so compelling that the listener forgets to run away. Don’t scare: capture them. Then, put the lotion in the basket.

So: Nonplus is about telling familiar stories with “alien” music. (and maybe a little bit about impeccable synthesis and production)

How did you get into making music?
My father played guitar and bass so it seemed natural to learn to play instruments. I played snare in band, took rock & jazz kit lessons, learned classical guitar, played classical bass in orchestra, and taught myself electric bass copying John Taylor and Peter Hook. I never took piano but since I loved synthpop, I ended up owning drum machines and synthesizers.. Oh, yeah: I was into electronics so I actually built my first synthesizer when I was Junior High; built an almost working (LOL) sampler in High School electronics lab. And, I was a computer geek that whole time.

Who are your major influences?
Insides, Scala, Skinny Puppy, My Bloody Valentine, His Name Is Alive … Harthouse, Rephlex, Renegade Hardware … Schoenberg, Gorecki … Marguerite Duras, Rumi, Lovecraft, PKD … Expressing things in unusual ways and learning to see yourself and the world through stranger eyes. The sound of one heart, breaking. redshift. The Planck Length. Hideous Siphonophorae.

What do you use to make music?
just regular gear

I work with a lot of cutting edge gear doing consulting for other artists, but I rarely buy it for myself. I’m always like 2 generations back buying stuff on closeout. I use a mix of plugins and hardware. I’m actually quite curious what people think I use. “Playdate” doesn’t sound like anything I’ve ever heard.. and it’s mostly analog(!).

What process do you go thru to make a track?
When I was writing techno, I would sit down and jam with just an analog synth and a drum machine — no computer. That’s the essence of old school techno — like Underground Resistance or Hardfloor. Wth Nonplus music, the process is pretty different: top-down, goal oriented design. The vocal pieces are stories I’m telling. I know what I want the final song to feel like and have an idea of the sounds I want to use before I sit down with the machines.

The instrumental pieces come about all kinds of different ways. Sometimes they’re tangents — places I ended up “by accident” while working on one of the vocal pieces. There’s a song on the album called “Der Liebestrank” that is over 10 minutes long. It was written in under 45 minutes as a speed writing / composition exercise.

I am easily bored, so I guess I like to give each piece some special value in my head. “You’re microtonal!” “You have a duophonic bass line” “I never heard you all the way through until you were finished”.

The songs with Christiane were all recorded as poems. Sprechgesang. She didn’t speak/sing to any music because none existed at the time of her reading. The music was written afterwards around her voice, which is why it sits so well despite being a-melodic. That’s how I prefer to work, but some vocalists can’t work like that so I throw together a scratch track with a drum loop and a bass line in a complementary key. After that, I find a motif I like and build around it.

One thing that shocks …well, everyone, is that I generally shun percussion while writing. Like: the percussion you hear on my songs is usually the last thing I wrote. The groove is in my head, and ends up in one of the other parts — like, in “Playdate”, it’s in that sick Moog bass. In another song, “North By Northwest”, it’s actually Christiane’s prosody – the trochaic pentameter of the vocals is echoed by a syncopated techstep inspired virus bass line.

Of course, the process often gets sidetracked to go off on adventures with new sounds, experiment with new synthesizers, or hijacked by computers crashing or other gear totally breaking down.

How did you come up with your name?
A chess game ends two ways: with a victory (checkmate), or a draw (stalemate). “Nonplus” is another term for stalemate — literally: unable to advance, in Latin. Or: like Joshua/WOPR’s ephiphany at the end of “Wargames”. A lot of people think of the French phrase “non plus”, like the fabulous, so-called obscene, Gainsbourg song. I don’t mind the misattribution. But, that’s not what I meant.

The modern definition of nonplus is: “a state of bewilderment or perplexity” or “to put at a loss for words”. Those seemed apt for the reactions I usually get from people when they hear my songs (or jokes).

What is your fav artists to listen to while driving?
Girls Aloud, The Saturdays, Ke$ha. Passengers …tend to be nonplussed.

Where do you live and how would you describe the scene there?
I’ve lived in San Francisco, DC, New York City, and Hawai’i.

Presently I reside in Helios Angeles. There’s all kinds of great stuff here . It’s totally hit or miss going out — parties with horrible music going off, parties with great artists that are dead.

I miss R’lyeh — that’s my scene.

How has this influenced your style?
There was a time, back when I was an O.G. East Coast Raver, that I, like all humans, wanted to fit in — wanted to make music my peers thought was cool. I failed at that. People were mostly confused, disturbed. Other musicians appreciated its technical merits, but that didn’t make it “cool”. After a while, I just gave up. What was the point?

That was the 90s.

At some point in the early 21st century, the electroclash era, I realized I missed making music. Electroclash reminded me of my love of New Wave and Synthpop (my first favorite band was Devo; i heard “Planet Rock” on WKYS before it was released, the judges at the High School talent show didn’t clap – just stared after I performed my Baudelaire inspired industrial music). But, as a raver, a techno snob, a techstep fan, etc., it was my duty to look down on pop. Right?

But, why? There were synthetic pop songs – “Don’t You Want Me”, “Are Friends Electric?”, “Warm Leatherette” – that remain masterpieces. Certainly, there was no shame in writing music like that.

Uh-oh: songs need lyrics… and an entirely different song structure. And this answer is getting really long so we’ll save that for the sequel.

Over the years what progression of dance music genres have you fallen in love with to bring you to where you are now? Early 80s: I religious listened to Casey Kasem every Sunday morning after church, and listened to New Wave on college radio stations every night. 10 years later I would be a music director at a college radio station. Funny how that works.

Late 80s: industrial music!

Early 90s: raver, including performing live techno at warehouse parties and dj’ing college radio.

Working at a college radio station was the best thing ever: I learned so much — not just about the music I liked but about so many other kinds of music from people who truly loved it.

Late 90s: d’n'b (not jungle!) all the way

This century: loved electroclash’s 15 minutes. But I mostly listen to new wave classics from the 80s and random British or Swedish electro-pop… and, a shallow but sincere fondness for Death Metal.

GANGSTA FUN Q&A

How would you describe your sound?
Like if you handed chainsaws to a pair of rabid housecats who were trying to fight their way out of a burlap sack! Haha! Na just kidding! My sound is a culmination of the influences I’ve had throughout my life as a musician. As an avid music listener, I enjoy many styles and genres ranging from, but not limited to, Rock and Pop, Hip-Hop and Alternative, Electronic and Jazz. I pretty much like anything that has a bangin’ beat and syncopated rhythms. As for my productions, I tend to gravitate more towards my Heavy Metal and Hip-Hop influenced roots. These are the styles of music I identified the most with as I was growing up. Basically, it’s all about making music that has that “head nod” feel to it! If it makes you move while you’re in the studio producing it, it will most likely have a similar effect when you show it to others. Always try to remember, it’s a great rule of thumb to have your audience in mind when hitting the studio for your next banger!

Who are your favorite artists to listen to while driving?
Believe it or not, I like to flip through the radio stations quite often while I’m driving. I feel this gives me a unique perspective on what’s going on in the music world, and it usually inspires me to incorporate many elements into my music which I would not have considered had I been choosing my own playlists. When I do break out the iPhone to check out some DJ mixes, I find myself listening to a lot of the “Essential Mix” and “In New 1xta DJ’s We Trust” mix sessions which were released a while back from UK radio station, 1xtra. Many artists featured on this mix series such as Rusko, Redlight, Skream & Benga have been some of the biggest influences for me in the Dubstep genre to date. Plus the mixes were usually around 3 hours long, making them great for long car rides.

Over the years what progression of dance music genres have you fallen in love with to bring you to where you are now?
I’m definitely a big fan of the way Dubstep has been progressing over the past few years. It seems like it started out as more of an underground thing, but today is heard in commercials, movie soundtracks, you name it! The main thing that attracted me to Dubstep in the first place was the many elements that are similar to those found in Drum & Bass. Being one of my all-time favorite genres of music, Drum & Bass is another form of music that I find incredibly open to the concepts of progression. I’ve always been a huge fan of music with heavy amounts of bass, which is why I believe I find Dubstep and Drum & Bass so appealing.

How long have you been producing and or Djing?
I’ve been DJing for just over 12 years now, and producing music for around 15 years.

What do you love about performing and what are your favorite gigs?
What I really like about DJing is the opportunity to perform in front of an ever-changing demographic of listeners. Every single show is a different experience from the last, and no two shows are ever the same. My favorite gigs are definitely the ones that feel like you’re in some sort of a movie scene… You know… the ones where the lights are going crazy, everyone is having a great time, and nobody cares about the drama! Those are by far the best and most memorable gigs for me.

How did you get into making music?
I originally started by learning to play electric guitar and bass guitar when I was in high school. From there, I began producing my own music utilizing a double-deck cassette tape recorder with an auxiliary hookup for my guitars, and layering guitar riffs over some of my earliest electronically produced drum beats. I believe this is where my passion for creating my own original music was born. Ever since that experience, I have had music on my mind all day, every day!

What do you use to make music?
I currently use Propellerhead’s Reason 5 music production software, along with Sound Forge 6.0 for sound editing, and T-Racks analog mastering software.

How do you decide which tracks to play when DJing to get the dance floor jumping?
I let the crowd decide what I play at my shows! Sounds crazy? Let me clarify. I have a host of tracks all ready to drop at a moment’s notice, but to decide which tracks to drop when, I tune into the vibes of the crowd and they usually tell me what they’re ready for by their reactions. I guess you could say I take a spiritual approach to track selection, so it should come as no surprise when I say that I actually don’t even know what I’m going to play at any given performance.

Who is your favorite DJ right now and why?
My favorite DJ at the moment is Rusko, hands down! In a time where there are countless numbers of talented artists and amazing DJ’s being discovered every day, I believe he stands out as one of the most well-rounded with his charismatic and engaging DJ persona. The reason I chose Rusko for this one is because I often model my own DJ performance after his live acts. He has a certain “wow factor” that I can really identify with. To put it into words… If you believe in what you’re doing, you can achieve anything you set your mind to!

What is the funniest story you have about a DJ gig gone cray cray?
I recently played a show in Pittsburgh where my car got broken into while I was inside the venue. When I came out to the car to get my CDs for the performance, my window was broken and my CD wallet stolen! I came back into the venue and disappointingly let the promoter know that I wasn’t going to be able to play the set. I then started driving back from the show and when I got about two blocks away; I noticed that there was one CD left in my CD player which was not taken. I promptly turned back around, ran back into the venue, and took the stage armed with only one copy my newest compilation mix. This might sound crazy, but I then proceeded to DJ the remaining CD that the thief had left in my car… and the crowd LOVED it! All things considered, I had a great time regardless, and it felt great to give the people a show while overcoming adversity at the same time!

ABOUT
Braxtek is a bass heavy monster! His passion for music is driven by the screechy Synths that encompass his masterpieces. We are proud to announce the Digital Gangster EP by Braxtek. This two track EP his filled with some of the most advanced forms of bass we’ve ever seen. Big up to Braxtek!!!

Digital Apologies has got to be the most catchy tune of the season. The vocals evolve your emotions into a perfect mold, readying your ears for the thunder. It’s electro feel is perfectly in tune with the dubstep vibe. This track can do no wrong.

Hardcore Gangster is one of those tunes that you just can’t get enough of. It’s the kind of tune that make other producers wish they had made it. It can move the crowd in perfect synchronicity like the ocean itself. It will engulf you and take permanent control.

BRAXTEK Q & A
Where do you live and how would you describe the scene there?
I live in Salt Lake City at the moment but I have been moving around constantly in and out of state my whole life. I was lucky enough to get exposed to all different types of people early and also different types of music.

How has this influenced your style?
The music is always different anywhere you go and hearing new types of music and new “ideas” in music, I guess you could say, motivates and teaches me new methods of making music. Even talking to people can have a very great influence on how my next track might sound.

How would you describe your sound?
Hmm, unique? Well I at least hope so anyways! I try to constantly create new sounds and styles that I hope will sound original and pleasing to my ear and everyone else’s! I want people up and jumping to my tunes, banging their heads, shuffling their feet, whatever makes them dance and makes them happy. I try to makes songs at different BPM’s a lot of the time so that I can appeal to all styles of dance and just party music in general.

How did you come up with your name?
This is one of those questions that I wish I had a better answer to haha!! I was making some beats one day and was on facebook as well just talking to one of my friends about music and he asked me what my artist name was, but I didn’t have an answer for him. For the rest of that day I literally sat in my office for like 6 hours just thinking of millions of different names I hadn’t heard before and that I knew hadn’t been thought of. At the end of all of that Braxtek was what came out of it. I always try to think of a way badass story to tell people when they ask me how I got my name but that’s how it really went down. 0_0

What is your fav artists to listen to while driving?
ANY artist with Circus Records, Especially Funtcase. Eptic, Coven, Knife Party, Downlink, Ajapai, Obsidian, PixelFist, Zed’s Dead, Heist, There are sooo many i could go on for days!

Over the years what progression of dance music genres have you fallen in love with to bring you to where you are now?
I grew up listening to Hip Hop, R&B, Reggae and Indie but I have always loved House and Electro music. As I got older I started listening to a lot more progressive house and trance. Then one day I stumbled upon Heist and fell in love with DnB. When I was about 13 I started producing Dnb and Hardstyle techno. I always loved music that was too heavy on the bass but was still electronic so I started to make Hip Hop beats with grimey synth sounds over the hooks and I loved it. It was then that I found Dubstep and damn, I never went back! I wouldn’t consider my style Dubstep but it is DEFINITELY my favorite genre to listen to and one of my favorites to produce.

Who would you say are your major influences?
There are so many artist that have influenced my music in many ways. Some of the main ones are Downlink, Funtcase, Dr.Philth, Doctor P, Coven, Basically the same artists I listen to in the car.

What do you love about performing and what are your favorite gigs?
What don’t I love about performing?!?! It’s such and extremely great feeling being on the stage with everyone jamming out to the same tune at the same time in the same place. For that period of time everyone is in sync and I love it! Just seeing the crowd smile and jump and mosh and scream and just lose their minds is amazing to me. It’s euphoric almost, being up there, you never know how they will react to your next track and then WAHHWAHH WEEEUUIIII WAHH BOOM oohhhhh daaaammmmnnn everyone is jumping and screaming and clapping and just going nuts. That’s why I love it.. My favorite gigs are the ones that are not so commercial. I like warehouses and old building made of concrete, I like a venue that says “this music is about to be loud as f*ck”. I like places that look rundown or are underground. I mean, don’t get me wrong event centers are amazing but I just prefer those spots that are “Filthy”.

How did you get into making music?
My whole family is very artistically talented in one way or another, but it seems that music is where my family excels. My uncle was a music producer but he was more into Pop and R&B and I followed him around everywhere. When I was about 8 I started hanging out in his studio with him and he showed me how to make beats and produce tracks and I fell in love with it. Over the course of the years I progressed and became better and now I am here.

What do you use to make music?
I originally stared on Acid Pro or something like that, it was so long ago. I have tried out so many different DAW’s and music programs and the one that I felt was right for me was FL studio( I know, laugh it up). FL studio is what I use now to make my tracks and I also use logic every now and again when I’m collaborating with artists. But hey, it’s not about the tools you have, it’s how you use them XD

What process do you go thru to make a track?
I don’t really have a process I go through each time I lay down a track, the first thing that comes in to my head is always the first thing that goes into my project.

How do you decide which tracks to play when DJing to get the dance floor jumping?
I like to freestyle all my sets so that I have room to play whatever I want whenever I want. There is a rule in DJing called the 90/90/90 rule. It’s supposed to mean that 90% of the people there should know 90% of your music choice 90% of the time. But fuck that, what is the point of going to a party or a rave if you’re just going to hear the same shit you listen to on your iPod 10 times a day? When I go to shows I always find myself way more hyped when the DJ drops a track that not many people know and everyone goes nuts because the beat is just too sick! I find that when I play events, depending on the event, the crowd gets excited for new tunes that are sick!

Who is your favorite DJ right now and why?
Most definitely the dynamic duo that is Funtcase and Cookie Monsta for the exact reasons I stated above! They are constantly dropping the best unreleased and unheard songs out there! And on top of that their stage presence is unreal!

How long have you been producing and or Djing?
I have been producing music for about 11 years and Djing for about 5.

BUL!M!ATRON Q&A
Where do you live and how would you describe the scene there?
Born & raised in LA, and wouldn’t change it for the world. The scene here is so ever-expanding and flourishing here, always something going on always someone awesome in town for an event. It truly is the city of dreams..and we’ve all got em.

How has this influenced your style?
Growing up here Has Influenced my style in many ways… from the weather, to the culture, to the politics…All key factors. Adaptation at its best.

How would you describe your sound?
To describe my sound in one word would be impossible..but if attempted, I’d say it would be “eclectic”. I never stick to one sound. You can hear the inspiration from all over within the tracks.

How did you come up with your name?
HAH! I love this question, seriously. Truth is, I came up with the name when I was still a teen. I knew a grip of girls that would rage it all night, hit up the drive-thru after the club, and puke it all up for breakfast in the morning hahaha! It had to be done!

What is your fav artists to listen to while driving?
My favorite artist to listen to (aside from Pink Floyd) while on the road would have to be Calvin Harris. Fun, poppy, heavy, techy…The man can do it all.

Over the years what progression of dance music genres have you fallen in love with to bring you to where you are now?
Over the years I have made my way from an indie/hipster/disco dance style…to the skate/punk trashy electro stuff…to the harder hitting bass sounds of fidget…then into Tech for a bit before discovering one of my current favorite genres that I still bang out on the daily, Dirty Dutch House. I’m also known for occasionally pulling a rabbit out of a hat when it comes to Dubstep & Moombahton.

What do you love about performing and what are your favorite gigs?
I love to know that for at least an hour at a time, each night…I have total control of the audience’s minds, body & soul. People love to dance, & I love to make them! There’s no greater feeling. Club Rock It @ Skyfox in Pomona, for example. One of my all-time favorite clubs to DJ at. Never fails! Always a packed house, always a great time.

How did you get into making music?
I started messing around on FL Studio years before I stepped into the EDM world. I used to experiment with lil hip hop or rock n roll beats..Nothing major, but definitely played a major roll in the birthing of BUL!M!ATRON.

What process do you go thru to make a track?
For me, the process of a tune is pretty routine. Idea, drumwork, bass, lead, percussion, fx & etc. I’ll go back and fourth but thats the basic approach I take. Well, when working alone, anyway.

How do you decide which tracks to play when DJing to get the dance floor jumping?
Reading the crowd is one of thee single most important parts of being a DJ. In LA, especially! People won’t hesitate to just make a snobby face and walk off the dance floor. Some even have the nerve to walk up to the DJ booth and lean over and put in their 2 cents. NO THANK YOU! You just have to know your surroundings or be able to adapt to any environment and bang it out accordingly. It’s definitely more of a feeling than an observation.

Who is your favorite DJ right now and why?
Hands down, Afrojack has got to be my favorite DJ right now. He’s my age, he stepped into the blog-haus world around the same time I started blogging, and look at him now. He’s huge, and still just doing what he loves. I respect that so much. I feel like I’ve been there with him along the whole journey to the top. And now, it’s my turn!

How long have you been producing and or Djing?
It has officially been 6 years solid that I’ve been producing/performing. Been around the map and back, done tons of things I would have never imagined doing before, & the best part is…THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING!

ABOUT:

OMG! You’re going to love this next release. We got Mustache Riot in the house! They are composed of We Bang who gave us the wonderful “Smash The Floor” a #1 hit on Beatport for months on end, and Natty Freq. The bass master with the mostest. They have graced us with two rock solid tracks,

Short Circuit, the title track to the EP is straight robotic. The intro sets it up with a robotic funk that’s sure to get your hips moving. It drops into a beast of a mechanical bliss full of triplets and raw bass. Be careful, some say the song has been know to bring life to your electronics!

Rollie Fingers is one of those all around fantastic tunes. This song is a Roller meaning it rolls right off the edge of the abyss getting blasted away. By the time you’ve realized it your fingers have been waving in mid air bouncing to the groove of the beat.

If you’re looking for a well-rounded solid release with tracks that can be played at big massive’s or at intimate parties then prepare to move your body. This release has been rigorously tested in the field and is guaranteed to go off.

ABOUT:

After the tremendous success the Dumbsteppaz achieved with their Nasty Jesus EP we have decided to take it a step further with their newest installment; Set To Stun EP. From the epic minds that brought us Church, a weekly bass driven event in the Inland Empire, Set to Stun will get your party jumping right.

Set To Stun sets the mood for the entire EP with its intergalactic samples from the Captain himself. If you’re a groove monster then you’re going to love this track. It is extremely addicting to listen to. The bass lines are perfectly in sync thus creating a vortex of pleasure for your ears.

Run Away is one of those exceptional tracks that creeps in the back of your sub consciousness. It sticks to every neuron in brain until you simply can’t hold back anymore and start singing along. You can’t stop listening to it over and over again until your craving for raw bass has been met. Don’t rob yourself of this amazing EP!

Milan’s underground scene has a lot to offer electronic music lovers. That’s why we have taken it upon ourselves to bring the best to the west. Boylerz is a trio from Italy, they specialize in murdering noises and tarnishing dance floors. It is our immense pleasure to introduce their next billboard ready release “Timeout EP”.

Time out is sensational by far. With thousands of plays on Soundcloud this one went directly into our favorites folder. This crunchy groove rides on the verge of infinity and back again. While it was there it took a few pictures and picked up a fan or two and now we are making it available for everyone to enjoy.

Glitches is one of those tunes that keeps your foot moving and a smile on your face way after it’s finished playing. The psycho-acoustic pleasure this track produces could only have been created by the collective minds of 3 musical geniuses’.

Wall is a whole new type of awesome, it’s 80’s melodies are taken into the 21st century and then mangled using a black hole from a different dimension. The byproduct of this process was this “out-of-this-world” track.
